A child is very impressionable. Whatever he sees & experiences, he learns. In his childhood if he experience love, joy, truth, kindness; he learns these qualities & if he experience violence, indifference, lies, he learns such evils.

Whatever a child experiences in his childhood, he return the same to the society. When we slap a child to make her do her home work or to switch off TV or to keep the classroom calm, the child learn violence and later he returns the same to the society.

If we want peace and non violence in the society, we have to make children experience non violence and peace.

Parenting for Peace (P4P) is a movement, which works for the parents & teachers to enable them to provide a joyful and loving childhood to the children. For this P4P movement tries to provide training & guidance to the teacher & parents.

In a meeting of P4P some members suggested that rather than organising training programmes in different schools sporadically, we should work in a focused manner in few schools and try to give everything that we want to give through P4P and then measure its impact.

Let us discuss:

  • Will there be many schools that are willing to take such imputs regularly for a longer duration?
  • If yes, then too if we work for 10 15 20 schools, our scope will become limited.
  • Even though we get very good result. If doesn’t mean that all schools will get ready to work for P4P.
  • Type of work we are doing now is like spraying seeds of P4P.
  • Spreading P4P seeds for in the whole world is also a great task in itself.
  • There are numerous parents who don’t know that they have to take a lot of care in nurturing a child.
  • If parents get aware of this; they can bring change in the life of their children.
  • We are doing this work, doesn’t mean that we cannot do long term work, our work on suicide prevention, dyslexia, parenting FAQs etc are of that kind. We will discuss in details in relevant section.
  • This document of Action Plan 2015 will guide in our all aspects of working.

P4P (Seed)

  • Through various media people are gradually coming to know about P4P and we are getting opportunity to introduce P4P to people. We should use these opportunities effectively.
  • If we get only 10 min. Time we can deliver the message by presenting a skit.
  • Try to get the opportunity to present P4P program out of state or anywhere in the state.
  • If we get 2 hours and if there is a possibility creation of a new team, one member from core team will go.
  • Otherwise prepare the organiser to introduce P4P.
  • Prepare them to have full introduction program of 2 hours.

P4P Teams

  • The objective of P4P is to bring world peace through a loving and joyful childhood
  • For this we want to enable parents & teachers. Therefore our main objective is to train parents and teachers.
  • This work is being carried out by people having faith in this idea.
  • We want to make a team of P4P in each & every city or town of the world to spread this message I the whole world.
  • You can also make your team and joint this mission

How will you make a P4P team?

  • Gather the people of your area, introduce P4P to them, provide information about P4P & invite them to join this movement.
  • Note down the email id, & contact no. of interested people. Fix a first meeting in next week, inform them about the date, time and venue.
  • Tell them to invite their friends in the next meeting.
  • Make 2 whatsapp group of these people 1) For communication & 2) To send inspirational messages; so that inspirational messages do not disturb important communication. For example,P4P Dharmapur communication, P4P Dharampur Inspiration.
  • Use logo of P4P for group photo.
  • Send the messages of first meeting on communication group.
  • Distribute different responsibilities to different group members in the first meeting so that they have opportunity to contribute.
  • Sometime after the team stars working, select coordinator. Remember that it is not a post or position it is a responsibility.

Common Responsibilities:

  2. Contact schools & get invitation to conduct training programs.
  3. Working as a trainer,
  4. Prepare a report of the program.
  5. Perform skit.

  • Once the team becomes functional there should be people who can take up these roles.

(it is prepared in Gujarati, will be translated in Engllish)

Other ways to make a team:

  • The existing team will create a team in neighbouring town using their contacts.
  • In schools program give information & introduction of P4P & tell the interested people who want to join P4P, to stay back. After the program, talk to them and prepare a team.

Making a team strong & efficient:

  • Organise a Training of Trainers (TOT) for team members so that they can act as trainers in parents’/teachers’ training.
  • Internal training by the team members to all the members on weekly/fortnightly basis.
  • To become a member of P4P Contact : Vaibhav Parikh – 9099010677

What are the advantages of working in team?

  • Strength and capabilities of each other will compliment one another.
For example: one member is a good speaker but he doesn’t have contacts in schools to get opportunity to train people but the other member has such contacts. The later will get invitation for the training the first one will deliver the training.
  • A single individual may get tired or due to some personal reasons or circumstances he is unable to do social work, in this situation other team member can sustain thework.
  • Continuity of the work is maintained even if each member contribute time and energy as per his convenience.

Media policy

  • The objective of P4P project is spreading the mission
  • To make people aware so that they take advantage of P4P activities.
  • To get opportunity to work ( to get invitation for training programs).
  • Keep away from individual publicity.
  • Don’t forget that the objective is to provide children a loving and joyful childhood. Be careful that priority should be given to the main objective of P4P, not to the individual interest.
  • Use media to inform people about the program, before program so that they can take the benefit of this. Inform them through media after the program so they can join the P4P mission by becoming team members.
  • Keep yourself away from the false pride (conceit) that you are doing a great work.
  • We don’t do programs for photo shooting.
  • Publicity should not be done in the cost of values and ethics.
  • It is not a platform to become famous.

  • Film Society of Surat (FSS) is also a active member of it.

  • World peace is a distant dream without giving these children loving and joyful childhood.
  • No remarkable work is done in this field. Little bit work is being done in terms of education of children etc but almost nothing is being done for capacity building of parents.
  • Children‘s will get continuous benefit if parents are made aware.

P4P Parent Helpline

  • Childline, a helpline for children, women helpline (1095, 181) etc. are available.
  • But there is no helpline for parents.
  • Some P4P members suggested that we should start parent helpline.
  • We can do that only after having systematic arrangements – infrastructure, paid and committed counsellors etc.

P4P Child line:

  • Child’s helpline (1098) is runned by NGO.
  • P4P is not NGO so it can’t get to run childline.
  • But NGO connected with P4P can take up childline of one district this helpline and run it sucessfully.
  • The present child line is mostly a reactive help line.
  • When child asks for help it reach over there but proactively they don’t take up work like awareness about child rights etc ultimately to give loving and joyful childhood to children. For example physical punishment to children is very common in our homes and child lines do very little about this.
  • P4P wants to change this.
  • If P4P runs child line then it can work effectively for this.
  • Work of parent counselling can also be done through P4p run child line and no separate parent help line is required.
  • Even then if there is a need for separate parents helpline, P4P can start this help line only after running child line successfully fulfilling above objectives.

P4P “Dhyan Vipassana”

  • It is a 2500 years old meditation technique reinvented by Gautam Budhha.
  • The first step of Vipassana meditition is Aanapan meditition.
  • Aanapan (Aaan + Aapan) means be aware about your incoming and outgoing breath.
  • With eyes closed, experience your every single breath.
  • By doing this, a person can have mental peace.
  • If children do this every day for 10 minutes: It will
    1. Improve concentration
    2. Give mental peace.
    3. Bring down reactions like anger, irritation, crying etc.
  • Teen agers are very much benefitted by it.
  • In this age they should study but they have friction with their parents, friends, they get disturbed with behaviour of their friends, misuse information and communication technology. This affects their future badly.
  • Aanpan meditation helps them to have control over this.
  • Help them in having better relations with parents.
  • Therefore, it prevents violence with children
  • It increases family peace.
  • Indirectly P4P’s work is done.
  • There are examples where due to Aanpan School’s Board results improved from 40% to 100%.
  • Children do Anap;an medition in all the schools of Maharatra during school prayer.

  • Vipassana means to see in a special way.
  • In the 10 days camp of Vipassana meditation Aanpan meditation is done for first three days.
  • Because of which one experiences minor sensations (itching, pain, feeling cold, wet, hot, vibration etc ) on the body
  • Minor sensations that are generally not noticed by us are experienced as our mind become more subtle.
  • All inputs enter in our body through five senses – eyes, ear, nose, skin and tongue.
  • Our brain analyses it.
  • If the input is analysed to be good, there are subtle desirable sensations on the body.
  • Our subconscious mind asks for more and more of such sensation. In spiritual language it is called raga.
  • If the input is analysed by brain to be not good, painful gross sensations are generated on the body.
  • The subconscious mind generates contempt for it and say it doesn’t want it any more. This is called dwesha or contempt.
  • For example when musical sound hits our ears.
  • The mind analyses it.
  • Desirable sensations occur.
  • Subconscious mind asks for more. This is a reaction of raga.
  • The abusive words hit our ears.
  • Mind analyses it.
  • Unwanted sensations occur on the body.
  • Unconscious mind reacts, “No, No I don’t want it.” This is dwesha or contempt.
  • Thus every moment our subconscious mind does reaction of raga or dwesha.
  • The unconscious mind understands only the language of experience.
  • In 10 day meditation camp, 7 days are given for Vipassana meditation.
  • Here the person practices seeing sensations on his body without reacting to it – without analysing it, without creating feeling of like or dislike or raga or dwesha for it.
  • This trains our mind to be non reactive to the sensations occurring on the body.
  • Now when something wanted or unwanted happens, the mind doesn’t react to the sensation created by this input. (the extent it used to do earlier before the meditation)
  • Reaction irritates us , gives us pain. This creates sankharas that creates out future of the next birth.
  • Forget our future, our day to day reactions give us pain, spoils our relations and give mental pain.
  • The experts of emotional intelligent say that if you take a little pause between stimuli and response it will be an emotionally intelligent behaviour. This will help you having good relations with people.
  • But how to have this little pause?
  • Vipassana give this pause and reactions gradually decrease.
  • If parents and teachers do vipassana, they will automatically become calm , they will have better relations with children.
  • This will reduce violence agains children and will help in creating a peaceful society.

  • P4P teams take up the work of teaching Anapana meditation to the children.
  • They should organise Vipassana introduction for parents and teachers.
  • Have self experience by attending vipassana camp and doing vipassana meditation regularly.
  • Parents will see positive change in the behaviour of their children and they will be motivated to go for vipassana meditation. This will make them calm. This will reduce the violence against children.
  • Please contact following Vipassana centre to organise introduction to vipassana for parents and teachers or anapana for children.
