Initially the children started going to school at approximately 5 years. Since last few years there is a trend to send the child to nursery school since the age of 3 years. It is more important to know what activities the child does in classroom hours rather than to debate on whether the child should be sent to nursery class at the age of 3 years or not. In recent years, the system of joint family is becoming obsolete. Most of the families are unitary. In many families both the parents are working. The child is looked after by illiterate servants or aayas or the child is kept in crash. In such a scenario, there is no harm in sending the child to nursery school for 3-4 hours. Now a days the families are very small and the child hardly gets any company to play. So, there is no harm in sending the child to nursery school where he can gain knowledge or develop skills by different play activities. The child also gets a chance to mix with other children and also teachers. But to force the child to write at this age is not proper. The skill of fine motor coordination is not fully developed in hands of small children. So, the task of written work is extremely stressful for child of this age. The child gradually develops aversion and hatred for written work as he can not cope up with written work. So, there is no harm in sending the child to nursery school since young age, but the parents should remain alert about the type of activities done in schools.
